We asked six AI assistants for the best restaurant in every Paris arrondissement

120 questions, six assistants, every answer checked. The AIs almost never agree with each other, and one answer in seven sends diners to the wrong place, sometimes to a shutter that has been down for years.

In the evening, on a Paris street, a young woman looks at her phone, puzzled; behind her, between two busy bistros, a shopfront has its metal shutter pulled down.

Let's be clear from the start: we are not neutral. Klarr sells a tool that measures what AI assistants say about restaurants. This study does not rank restaurants, nor does it settle which is the best bistro in the 11th: it only checks whether what the AIs say is true.

How we did it

On 4 October 2026, we asked the same question, word for word, for each of the twenty arrondissements: « Quel est le meilleur restaurant dans le 11e arrondissement de Paris ? » ("What is the best restaurant in the 11th arrondissement of Paris?"). We asked it of six assistants, on their public websites and apps, as any diner would: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Mistral's Le Chat and Perplexity. That makes 120 answers.

Judging by their answers, Gemini, Perplexity, ChatGPT and Le Chat searched the web before replying; Claude and Grok answered without doing so.

For each answer, we kept the first restaurant named, the one a diner in a hurry will remember. Then we checked the 82 restaurants this gave us: is it open, at the address and in the arrondissement stated, and is what the AI says about it (Michelin stars, chef) up to date?

They never agree

Across the twenty arrondissements, not one gets all six assistants to agree. Five out of six agree only twice: on L'Ambroisie in the 4th and on Septime in the 11th. In the 10th, 13th, 14th and 17th, they give six different answers.

Number of arrondissements, by how many AIs name the same restaurant first

  • 6 AIs out of 60
  • 5 AIs out of 62
  • 4 AIs out of 63
  • 3 AIs out of 66
  • 2 AIs out of 65
  • No agreement4
The largest number of assistants naming the same restaurant first, for each of the 20 arrondissements. Klarr, 4 October 2026.

In total, the 120 answers name 82 different restaurants first. ChatGPT stands out: 17 of the 20 restaurants it recommends are not named first by any of the other five.

Nor do they look at the same things. Le Chat mentions Michelin stars or the Michelin Guide in 17 answers out of 20, Gemini in 13. ChatGPT never does, but justifies its choice seven times by calling the place "well rated": it relies on customer reviews.

Seven answers send diners to a closed door

  • La Table d'Eugène, in the 18th, closed since 2021, is recommended by Le Chat and by Perplexity. It is the only restaurant two assistants agree on in that arrondissement. Le Chat also places it on "rue Legendre", a street in the 17th.
  • Abri, in the 10th, recommended by Grok, served its last dinner in November 2022.
  • La Régalade, avenue Jean-Moulin in the 14th, recommended by Grok, gave way to Les Petits Parisiens in 2020.
  • Rech, avenue des Ternes in the 17th, recommended by Grok, closed at that address in 2021.
  • L'Arcane, in the 18th, recommended by Gemini, has been closed since late 2024.
  • Le Chapeau Melon, in the 19th, recommended by Perplexity, closed several years ago.

Four of the six assistants recommend a closed restaurant at least once, and three of them had just searched the web.

Ten more answers get the address wrong

The restaurant exists, but not where the AI sends you:

  • Perplexity puts Le Servan in the 3rd, then again in the 20th: it is in the 11th. L'Astrance is not in the 13th but in the 16th, Le Chardenoux not in the 12th but in the 11th, Le Faham not in the 15th but in the 17th.
  • Le Chat puts Le Quincy in the 13th: it is in the 12th. It gives Guy Savoy's address as "rue Troyon", in the 17th, which the chef left in 2015 for the Monnaie de Paris. And it describes Le Jourdain, in the 20th, as a Franco-Italian pizza place on rue Jourdain: it is a natural wine bistro on rue des Couronnes.
  • Gemini names Pantagruel for the 2nd: the restaurant moved to the 1st in July 2025.
  • ChatGPT names Fleur de Pavé for the 9th: it is in the 2nd.

One answer in seven overall

Adding closed restaurants to wrong addresses, 17 answers out of 120 send diners to the wrong place. The gap between assistants is clear:

Answers that send diners to the wrong place, out of 20

  • Perplexity7 out of 20
  • Le Chat4 out of 20
  • Grok3 out of 20
  • Gemini2 out of 20
  • ChatGPT1 out of 20
  • Claude0 out of 20
Closed restaurant, wrong arrondissement or outdated address, for the first restaurant in each answer. Klarr, 4 October 2026.

This is not a ranking of the assistants: twenty questions asked on a single day are not enough, and the same question asked the next day may get a different answer. But the result contradicts a common belief. Searching the web is not enough to be right. Perplexity searches for every answer, and it is the one that gets things wrong most often, mostly the arrondissement: the restaurant exists, but not where it says.

Information that has fallen behind

Other answers lead to the right door, but describe a place that has changed:

  • Claude, Gemini and Le Chat still give L'Ambroisie three Michelin stars. The restaurant on the place des Vosges, three stars since 1988, lost one in the 2026 guide. Le Chat also says it is "run by Bernard Pacaud", who was succeeded in the kitchen by Shintaro Awa in 2025.
  • Gemini gives Virtus, in the 12th, one star; it has had two since March 2026.
  • Gemini and Le Chat present Septime as Bertrand Grébaut's restaurant. The chef, who co-founded it and made it one of the most influential tables in Paris, passed away last July, at 44. Both assistants still speak of him in the present tense.

These errors won't stop anyone from dining well. They show how an AI learns: it repeats what has been written most often, and it takes time for a change, even a public and widely reported one, to outweigh years of older articles.

What this means for a restaurant

An assistant only knows what it has read about you. If it keeps saying you are open after you have closed, it will also keep ignoring that you have opened, moved or changed chef, until that is written often enough, and consistently with everything else.

For restaurant owners, three lessons:

  1. The same information everywhere. Identical name, address and opening hours on your Google Business Profile, your website, TripAdvisor and your social media. When these sources contradict each other, the AI picks one, and not necessarily the most recent.
  2. Announce your changes. A move, a new chef, an award: write it on your website and your Google profile, and get the local press or a guide to pick it up. A single mention is not enough to correct years of articles.
  3. Check what is said about you. Ask several assistants the question a diner would ask, note who is named, and do it again a month later. Our free AI visibility test does it for you on a question of this kind.

Limits of the study

  • One question, one day. An assistant's answers vary from one time to the next, depending on the wording, the account and the location. What is measured here is what a diner read that day, not a truth about each assistant.
  • The first restaurant only. Claude and Gemini often name two to four places; Grok, Perplexity and ChatGPT just one. We checked only the first, the same rule for everyone.
  • Checked by research. Each restaurant was checked on 4 October 2026 against guides, press articles and the restaurants' own websites. If we got one wrong, write to us: we will correct it and say so.
